More people are living in malls as real estate developers knock down department stores and construct apartment buildings in their place. At least 192 U.S. malls planned to add housing to their footprint as of January 2022, and at least 33 had constructed apartments since the pandemic began. Dozens more apartment projects are currently underway. This new version of the mall not only helps to chip away the housing shortage, but also comes as malls fight for survival and look to transformation to avoid extinction. Read more.

Amazon Launches Retail Partnership With Hyundai

Amazon has launched its retail partnership with Hyundai Motor Co. in 48 U.S. cities. The deal allows car-shoppers to purchase a new Hyundai vehicle on Amazon and schedule pickup at a local dealer. The vehicles are being offered via Amazon’s new online shopping platform. Amazon will add more U.S. Hyundai dealerships to the Amazon Autos platform next year, including brands from additional OEMs, as it adds new cities and functionality to its online car buying platform. Meijer Triples Home Delivery Range to Serve 4 Million More Households

Meijer has expanded its home delivery service area, tripling its range from an approximately 20-minute radius from its stores to 60 minutes. This extended delivery zone makes the service available to nearly 4 million additional households in rural and urban areas across the Midwest, with items delivered in as little as three hours. Meijer is offering free home delivery in the extended zone to those who purchase at least $35 in pet or beauty products, or $50 in general merchandise, through Feb. 1, 2025. Read more.
